Annual Tug Fest
is the Tug Fest all about?
here for Tug Pull Video! 3.5meg
Great River Tug took place in 1987 with ten 20-member tug teams pulling
with all of their strength on the 2,400 foot, 680 pound rope that spans
the Mississippi River between Port Byron, Illinois and LeClaire, Iowa.
Each year the teams pull to see who will claim the breathtaking alabaster
statue of the Bald Eagle in flight. Thousands of people come from all
over to view this spectacular and only tug-of-war across the longest
river in the United States. LeClaire won the Tug Fest in 1998 and received
the "Iowa Event of the Year" Award
for being one of the most outstanding festivals in the State of Iowa.
In 1999 Iowa won the Tourism Special Event of
the Year Award.
