HALLOWEEN SAFETY

Trick or Treating will be on October 31st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Following are safety tips to help make this Halloween a safe and enjoyable one.

Costume Safety:

·          Use make-up or face paint instead of masks, but if masks are used, make sure that they fit properly and have holes large enough for mouth and eyes.

·          Choose costumes that are marked flame retardant.

·          Wear light-colored clothing at night, short enough to prevent tripping.  Add reflective tape or reflectors to dark colored costumes.

·          Make props such as magic wands and swords out of cardboard, rather than metal or wood.

Trick-or-Treat Safety:

·          Give and accept wrapped or packaged candy only.

·          Have children bring treats home for adult inspection before they are eaten.

·          Accompany small and elementary school age children when they are trick-or-treating and send older children in groups.

·          Go out in daylight and carry a flashlight in case of delay.

·          Have children stway within the neighborhood; only visit homes you know.

LeClaire Police Department – (563) 289-5442

Be very careful when walking or crossing streets while dressed up.  Masks can obscure vision enough to block out an approaching vehicle, and a guardian escorting trick or treaters is strongly advised for safety purposes.

If questionable candy is located (damaged wrapping materials or if the contents look tampered with), call the Police Department immediately.  Have a safe and enjoyable Halloween!

                                                Police Chief Pfeiffer

2009 PET TAGS

Pet licenses for the year 2009 will go on sale October 1, 2008.  The cost is $1 if purchased before December 31, 2008, and $2 if purchased after.  Please bring in the rabies vaccination certificate for your pet to City Hall and we will issue you a numbered tag for your pet to wear.

BUFFALO BILL MUSEUM

If you were unable to attend the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for the River Pilot's Pier on September 14th, you need to pay the Buffalo Bill Museum a visit. The new annex over the Lone Star is now included with the price of museum attendance.

You can help support the museum by visiting their tables at the Fall Market Days October 10-12.

When the weather starts to get cold the museum loses several of the wonderful volunteers that help out because they head for warmer weather for the winter season. If you have the time to help out, please call Mary, 289-4603 or Debbie 289-4458.

MAYORAL MESSAGE

THANK – YOU LECLAIRE!!

RAGBRAI in LeClaire is over. Seven months of meetings and hard work resulted in an event that well exceeded all of our expectations. Everything, except a two hour traffic jam, came off just as planned. The whole affair was an outstanding tourism extravaganza!

What was just as impressive as the event itself was the performance of all of the 300 + volunteers. From the beginning, back in January, when it was announced that LeClaire was to host the End Town RAGBRAI Event, till the last scrap of paper was picked up after the event was over, the spirit and efforts of the volunteers was a shining example of what can be accomplished while working together as a team.  Our city has had nothing but praise from the thousands of bikers and their families that visited our little river town.

On behalf of the LeClaire City Council, and myself, I want to thank each and every volunteer for all their efforts in producing what many of the Bikers said was the best End Town RAGBRAI Event they have experienced in many years. From the Executive Committee down to those who cleaned up afterwards, it was all of you who made this happen. Thank-you all very much.....  LeClaire is certainly a great place to visit, but it’s even better to live here.
