Am I responsible to keep my lawn mowed and weeds trimmed? What is the weed abatement process?

Summary - you are responsible to keep your lawn mowed and weeds trimmed.  Here is a summary of the City of LeClaire's weed abatement ordinance.

-  In effect from April 1 to November 1 of each year.

-  Property owner is responsible to prevent growth of noxious weeds or vegetation on your property.

-  Property owner is responsible to cut or destroy all weeds, vines, brush, grass, over 10" (inches) in height within 100' (feet) of your home.

-  Property owner is responsible to cut or destroy all weeds, vines, brush, grass, over 2' (feet) in all other areas of your property over 100' (feet) of your home.

-  If weeds/grass reaches these heights or above, and the property owner does not take care of it, the City will complete this work and assess the property owner as follows:

City:     $100 per man-hour (rounded up to the next ½ hour) with a minimum charge of not less than $100 for any and all man-hours or fractional portions thereof (as noted above) expended by the City abating any weed conditions in the event that a property owner fails to comply with any required notice received in this matter.

Additionally, an administrative charge as shown below shall be added to the bill for any subsequent violations:

            1st violation within two (2) years after initial notice - $100

            2nd violation within two (2) years after initial notice - $200

            3rd violation within two (2) years after initial notice - $300

            4th and subsequent violations within two (2) years after initial notice - $400 per violation.

Private Contractor: Cost +25%.
